REPAIRING SMALL "DINGS" AND MINOR SCRATCHES

  • Clean area to be repaired with tack cloth or damp cloth.  Do not use solvents, naphtha, or turpentines.  Allow to air dry.

  • Using lacquer putty, spot fill area with a thin, even coat.  Use the putty knife to feather out material beyond dinged area.

  • Allow to dry.

  • Sand entire filled area with #150 or #300 fine grit sandpaper in hand sanding block.

  • Repeat Step #1.

  • Apply a fine, even coat of primer on entire area and approximately 3" beyond.

 

TOOLS AND MATERIALS REQUIRED

  • Power orbital sander or D. A. type sander.

  • Hand sanding block.

  • Course grit (#80) sandpaper and fine grit (#150 to #300) sandpaper.

  • Polyester resin (ex. White Star) high grade auto body filler with independent hardening agent.

  • Lacquer putty in tube form (ex. 3M, Du Pont, R & M's Green Stuff) for spotting.

  • Castlegate prime paint in spray cans for "touch-ups".

  • Wide blade putty knife.

  • Mixing board for polyester resin.

  • Clean absorbent cloths.

  • Damp cloth or tack cloth.
